President Moammar Gaddafi during a speech on state television on Tuesday (22/02/2011) Tripoli time.
PARIS - African Union invited representatives of government Moammar Qaddafi, the Libyan opposition groups, and other parties in Addis Ababa for talks this Friday.
African Union Chairman Jean Ping told reporters, Qaddafi would send the prime minister. In addition, officials from the EU, the UN Security Council, and the neighboring Arab countries were also invited to Ethiopia to discuss the crisis of Libya.
"We will start the meeting which was attended by both warring parties in Addis Ababa on Friday," Ping said on Friday (03/25/2011).
He said, Qaddafi agreed to the invitation and will send his prime minister, but it is unclear whether he can come because of the no-fly zone in Libya.
Answering a question whether he supports the opposition in a crisis or Qaddafi of Libya, Ping said, "The African Union did not support anyone and we want a solution. "
According to Ping, the African Union wants the ceasefire to be achieved, humanitarian assistance, protection of civilians, and Libya in response to popular demands for democracy.
